Doug Smith

The founder’s perspective on animal-based protein, understandable labels, and choosing food that fits your life.

From a kitchen idea to Paleo Pro

Doug founded Paleo Pro in 2013 after looking for a protein powder that fit the way he wanted to eat. The original idea was straightforward: animal-based protein and ingredients he could explain.

That interest still shapes the questions behind the Field Journal. What is in a scoop? How do protein sources differ? What does a study actually tell us? And what should someone check before buying?

Doug provides the founder’s perspective, product context, and content behind Paleo Pro’s blog guides. His connection to the products is part of the story: he is the founder of the brand whose products appear on this site.

How we put a guide together

  1. Start with a real decision. Explain the question in plain language before discussing products.
  2. Check the evidence. Link research and distinguish the ingredient, dose, and people studied from the finished product on a shelf.
  3. Read the exact label. Formulas and flavors can differ. Ingredient lists, allergens, and serving sizes deserve more attention than the front of the package.
  4. Make corrections. Update meaningful errors and outdated product information. Product descriptions and research should agree with the advice in the guide.

These guides provide general education. Personal medical and nutrition decisions belong with a qualified clinician or registered dietitian who knows your circumstances.
